¿Por qué usar tasas ajustadas de mortalidad para comparar poblaciones?

Las tasas de mortalidad por grupo de edad y causa describen la situación epidemiológica en una población, dada la fuerte dependencia de la edad para ciertas enfermedades y lesiones (1); las tasas de mortalidad por grupos de edad y especialmente por muertes debidas a causas prematuras, son relevantes para la acción política.(2)
